What is Holistic Nutrition?
It starts with food, but there’s more! Holistic nutrition is a natural way to improve health using evidence-based research and techniques, with a focus on diet and lifestyle. And when it comes to your health and body, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. We evaluate your complete health history, state of mind, lifestyle, and dietary habits to uncover the root causes contributing to your health concerns. From there, we will create a customized plan, including dietary recommendations, lifestyle adjustments and any necessary supplements. The goal is to get to the root of the issue, rather than cover up symptoms.
Some areas we address include:
- Digestive issues
- Food allergies and sensitivities
- Stress management
- Low energy
- Hormonal imbalance
- Weight loss
- Skin issues
- Disease prevention
As a graduate of the Institute of Holistic Nutrition, with a diploma in Applied Holistic Nutrition, my certification is approved by both the International Organization of Nutritional Consultants (IONC) and The Canadian Association of Natural Nutritional Practitioners (CANNP). Our studies include anatomy & physiology, biochemistry, natural supplementation, pathology of disease, herbal medicine, psychology of disease, preventative healthcare and more.
It’s important to note that nutritionists are not regulated by the government, so if you’re looking to work with one, make sure they have reliable credentials. IHN graduates hold the certification of CNP (Certified Nutritional Practitioner).
“Nutritional counselling” from an NNCP may be covered by your plan with Manulife, iFinancial Group, Greenshield Canada, ClaimSecure Inc. and Blue Cross Alberta. You may also use your personal spending account/flex plan for these services. Please verify with your insurance provider to confirm specific coverage. If it is not currently covered, communicate the request for this service to your employer. The more it is requested, the more likely they will make efforts to include it.
